"[...] Pinto’s works on paper are not a secondary and temporary practice, but a real daily artistic practice, an investigation in and with the sign.
And if his painting may appear “extreme”, in the great drawings exhibited in the exhibition, especially those in black and white, you can notice a less suffered harmony, an achieved, even if precarious, balance, a constant discovery.
In these works on paper there is no struggle between creative and executive moment, quite the opposite, the two moments meet in the action of the artist, in the movement of the hand that gives birth to the image.
Since behind these signs and forms there is the bodily gesture: the hands, while drawing, think and move; the sign is connected to the manual experience, it is a profoundly physical necessity, not only a necessity of thought.
It comes to my mind what Artaud said: “Each drawing is a machine which is breathing"
